2021 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $22.3 million
U.S.-booked air spend for pharmaceutical and medical device
provider Abbott decreased slightly from 2020 to 2021, according to a BTN
estimate. The 2021 figure represents less than a quarter of the company’s 2019
volume, which came in at $104 million.
The company’s global revenue increased to $43.1 billion in
2021, a 24 percent increase from 2020. In 2021, Abbott employed a workforce of
some 113,000, an increase of about 4,000 from a year prior. The company
recently expanded its manufacturing facilities in Ireland, with an additional
1,000 employees.
While Abbott continued to employ a strict travel policy,
avoiding non-essential business travel, its ‘Travel Safety’ program supported
28,000 travelers in 2021. In 2021, the company saw a 55 percent decrease in
business travel-associated) carbon emissions compared to 2019 levels, but a 9
percent increase from 2020.
