U.S.-booked air spend at pharmaceutical and medical device firm Abbott remained steady from 2018 to 2019, increasing just $1M, according to a BTN estimate. Global sales increased about 7.7 percent to $31.9 billion in 2019, while corporate net earnings spiked 55.7 percent to $3.69 billion. The company had about 107,000 employees as of Dec. 31, 2019, an increase of about 4,000 people from one year prior.
Business travel, a Scope 3 emission, contributed about 2 percent to the company's carbon footprint. Since 2010, Abbott has reduced Scope 3 emissions by almost 40 percent. The company verifies the emissions related to its business travel through a third-party assurance process.
In 2019, Abbott's global security team trained more than 10,100 employees worldwide on situational awareness. The company's travel safety program supported more than 110,000 international trips by more than 24,500 of its employees.
