2022 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $72M
Consolidated U.S. TMC: CWT
U.S.-booked air spend for
pharmaceutical and medical device provider Abbott more than tripled between
2021 and 2022 to $72 million, according to a BTN estimate. However, the 2022
figure is still 31 percent less than the company’s 2019 volume, which came in
at $104 million.
The company’s global revenue increased
by less than 2 percent year-over-year to $43.7 billion and Abbott added 2,000
new employees to its global workforce, which in 2022 amounted to 115,000 people
in more than 160 countries.
While Abbott appears to have eased its
strict ‘essential-only’ travel policy that was introduced during the pandemic,
two recent acquisitions—of medical device company Cardiovascular Systems and
medical tech start-up Bigfoot Biomedical—may see overall travel volumes
increase even further into 2023 and beyond.
In 2022, the company’s travel
footprint contributed 2 percent of its Scope 3 carbon emissions.
