Airbnb has acquired Urbandoor, a platform of furnished and
serviced apartments tailored for extended business trips and relocations.
Founded in 2015, Urbandoor includes apartments in more than 1,500 cities across
60 countries. "When you look at [Airbnb's] HotelTonight acquisition and
now the Urbandoor acquisition and what already exists on Airbnb.com, it joins
all the pieces together around last-minute hotels, boutique hotels, homes and
apartments, and then longer-term stays, whether that be for extended stays or
relocations," Airbnb for Work global head David Holyoke told BTN. "It
allows us to work a lot more around housing programs and not just transient and short-term business stays. It's a more complete picture,
from that one- to two-night [stay] all the way to that 30-plus [stay]." All
Urbandoor employees will join Airbnb, and over time, Urbandoor listings for
long-term stays will be bookable through the Airbnb platform. "We've been
in discussions with [Urbandoor] for a while, so we have a clear road map ahead
for both teams," Holyoke said.
