2022 U.S. Booked Air Volume: $15M
Primary U.S. TMC: BCD
Aerospace giant Airbus in 2022 saw its U.S.-booked air
volume increase about 36 percent year over year to $15 million, according to
BTN estimates.
In 2022, the company reported €58.8 billion in revenue, up
about 12.7 percent year over year. It delivered 661 commercial aircraft, up 8
percent from 611 aircraft delivered in 2021. Airbus noted in its 2022 annual
report that the company has been adversely affected and could continue to be
because of numerous factors—including a sustained reduction in the volume of
business travel—the past few years since Covid-19 emerged.
Airbus in 2019 introduced a mechanism to compensate for its
business travel emissions "based on the concepts of additionality, real
(permanent) reduction, prevention of double counting, prevention of
overestimation and no additional harm." The volume of offsets required in
2022 was for 45 kilotons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, even though
the company reported 47 kilotons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions related
to business travel, up from 17 kilotons reported in 2021.
As of Dec. 31, 2022, the company reported it had more than
134,000 employees, about a 6 percent increase from 2021.
