American Airlines is extending cancellations for the Boeing
737 Max through Dec. 3, an extension
of about a month. According to a release from the carrier, "American
Airlines remains confident that impending software updates to the Boeing 737 Max,
along with the new training elements Boeing is developing in coordination with
our union partners, will lead to recertification of the aircraft this year."
The cancellations will tally about 140 flights per day, though not all flights
that had been scheduled on Max planes necessarily will be canceled, as the
carrier plans to substitute aircraft types in some cases.
United also has extended cancellations, moving the date to put the Max back in service from early November to Dec. 19, equaling about 90 flights per day.
