American Airlines soon will provide testing and a mobile app for document verification for travel to Chile, the carrier announced.
Beginning Dec. 7, travelers between Miami and Santiago will have access to mobile wallet app VeriFly, which provides information on destination requirements and lets travelers digitally verify that they have met them, expediting airport processing. The carrier already has been testing the app for travel to Jamaica.
In addition, American will begin giving travelers to Chile access to at-home Covid-19 tests via its partner LetsGetChecked. The same provider currently is supplying tests for American passengers to Belize, Grenada, St. Lucia and Hawaii.
As of Dec. 7, Chile will allow non-residents to visit the country without a 14-day quarantine if they can provide proof of health insurance that covers health issues during a stay, an approved negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to departure and an affidavit verifying their health status, according to the U.S. Embassy in Chile. Prior to Dec. 7, travelers can enter with those documents but must complete a 14-day quarantine regardless. After Dec. 7, Chile instead is asking travelers for a 14-day "period of vigilance" in which they report their health and location daily to the country's Health Ministry, in addition to the required documentation.
American also is adding LetsGetChecked testing for passengers traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands beginning Dec. 9. The tests, which must be completed within five days of departure, will be available to travelers to St. Thomas from each Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Chicago and Philadelphia; and for flights to St. Croix from both Charlotte and Miami.
