Apple Inc. saw a six-fold increase in
year-over-year travel spend to $210 million in 2022, up from $35 million in
2021 and inched closer to its pre-pandemic 2019 spend, which came in at just
under $300 million, according to BTN estimates.
Since 2020, Apple’s global operations,
including business travel and employee commute, have been carbon-neutral and in
2022 the company expanded its footprint boundary to also include work from home
as part of its new hybrid work model.
Corporate travel activity during the
2022 fiscal year, which ended in September 2022, generated 113,500 metric tons
of carbon dioxide equivalent, up from 22,850 the year prior. The company has
also pledged to move to sustainable aviation fuel equal to 5 percent of its
passenger air travel footprint by 2030.
The company had 164,000 employees at
the end of September 2022, up from 154,000 a year earlier.
The computing and software giant
posted $394.3 billion in global revenue in fiscal year 2022, up 8 percent year
over year.
