Travelers working for U.S. defense contractor BAE Systems
got back on the road in 2022, as the company implemented a "welcome
home" employee survey. BAE's U.S.-booked air volume more than tripled
compared with 2021, hitting $28 million in 2022, and the volume is on track to
increase by another $8 million this year.
Full travel volumes are likely to return at BAE within the
next few years, though the company does not expect a full return of employees
to the office.
Generally, travel at BAE still requires a higher level or
clearer justification than it did pre-pandemic. The company's travel team in
2022 also updated its airline reason codes and low-logical airfare policy.
This year, BAE is working to drive savings in its air
program by re-competing its airlines with its global counterparts. In addition,
the company is benchmarking its travel risk management program to the ISO 31030
standards.
Globally, BAE has a workforce of 93,100 employees, about a
third of which are in the U.S. The company reported 4 percent sales growth for
2022, totaling £23.3 billion globally.
