Certify and Chrome River have acquired Emburse, a startup provider of virtual and physical payment cards for business expenses and vendor payments. Certify and Chrome River, which merged in a $1 billion-plus deal this year, will add Emburse to their combined portfolio, which includes several travel, expense and invoice management brands. Founded in 2014, Emburse offers plastic and virtual credit and debit cards for use by employees, job candidates and procurement departments. Managers can set limits and parameters on card spending and track use in real time. That card-issuing service initially will integrate into Certify and Chrome River's expense management brand Abacus to enhance real-time expense reporting capabilities. Last year, another card-based expense management specialist, Divvy, struck a partnership with travel booking and management provider TripActions. In June, the companies announced that Divvy would add TripActions' travel services to Divvy's existing platform.
