2019 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $103 million
Technology conglomerate Cisco spent about 6 percent less on U.S.-booked air travel in 2019 compared with the prior year, BTN estimates. The company provides remote collaboration technologies like Webex to reduce the need for business travel. Still, in 2019, Cisco reported 217,500 Scope 3 business travel CO2 emissions compared with 177,210 in 2018, a 23 percent increase. The company also outsources some meeting planning and event production to outside firms, including BCD Meetings & Events.
Revenue for Cisco's fiscal year, which ended July 25, 2020, decreased about 5 percent year over year to $49.3 billion. Total employees came to 77,500, up about 1,600 from 2018, with 38,600 based in the U.S. The company's sales team comprised 25,800 people, down about 400 from the year prior. It has field offices in 95 countries, two less than in 2018. The company announced in August 2020 it was cutting $1 billion in expenses that would include a restructuring plan with voluntary early retirements and layoffs.
