BTN estimates that Citi spent $145 million on U.S.-booked air travel in 2019. The financial services giant has set a goal to cut travel as a part of its sustainability strategy and encourages its employees to use video and web conferencing in lieu of travel when possible and for employees to group trips together to reduce the number of trips taken. Carbon emissions related to air travel declined 15.8 percent year over year in 2019, and emissions related to train travel declined 23.3 percent.
Citi in 2019 also drafted sustainable supply chain policies for its travel suppliers and continues discussions on how to implement those this year.
Citi's revenues increased 1.9 percent year over year to $74.3 billion in 2019 and 200,000 full-time employees as of the end of 2019, down 4,000 year over year.
