Travel volume for professional
services firm Deloitte ramped up in 2022. U.S.-booked air spending increased
more than six times its $46 million low in 2021 to $284 million last year, yet
it still remained 50 percent lower than it was at Deloitte’s height of $583
million in 2019. The pace of travel, however, has continued to grow in 2023.
Deloitte’s travel management team
engaged in technology projects related to air content distribution in 2022 and
continues evaluate the impact of New Distribution Capability. It also enhanced
mobile booking access and other service support for travelers. The team
concentrated procurement efforts on sourcing and supplier negotiations in an
inflationary environment.
Deloitte shifted its travel policy
focus in 2022 to sustainability and traveler wellness and continued engagement
with travelers on sustainable travel practices in 2023. According to the goals outlined
in the firm’s WorldClimate initiative, Deloitte aims to reduce Scope 3
greenhouse gas emissions from business travel by 50 percent per full-time
employee by 2030 from a 2019 base year. It is engaging with major suppliers
with the goal of having 67 percent set science-based targets by 2025. Deloitte
also has invested meaningfully in sustainable aviation fuel with seven North
America-based airlines to stimulate SAF demand and production.
