2022 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $70 million
Consolidated U.S. TMC: BCD
After two consecutive years of estimated
U.S.-booked air volume of $31 million, that figure more than doubled to a BTN-estimated $70 million at ExxonMobil in 2022. However, that is still nowhere
near the oil giant’s estimated spend of $197 million in 2019.
One reason is that ExxonMobil has a smaller
global workforce, declining from 75,000 in 2019 to 63,000 in 2021 and 62,000 in
2022. Moreover, the percentage of U.S.-based employees fell from 40 percent in
2019 to 36 percent in 2022.
The company is on track to deliver cost
reductions of $9 billion by year-end 2023 versus 2019. Earnings at ExxonMobil
jumped from $23 billion in 2021 to $56 billion in 2022. However, earnings for
the first half of 2023 were $19 billion, down from the same period in 2022.
In July 2023, ExxonMobil announced its
intention to buy Mississippi-based oil producer Denbury for $4.9 billion.
ExxonMobil does not report on its emissions
related to business travel.
