Global air demand grew a solid 5 percent year over year in June, according to the International Air Transport Association. Global capacity rose 3.3 percent. Load factor rose 1.4 percentage points to 84.4. percent, the highest recorded level for June. "June continued the trend of solid passenger demand growth while the record load factor shows that airlines are maximizing efficiency," said IATA director general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac. "Amid continuing trade tensions between the U.S. and China and rising economic uncertainty in other regions, growth was not as strong as a year ago, however."

June crossborder air demand rose 5.4 percent year over year. All regions recorded jumps in growth rates, led by Africa. Capacity rose 3.4 percent, and load factor climbed 1.6 percentage points to 83.8 percent. All regions except the Middle East had record June load factors.
Domestic air demand rose 4.4 percent. Capacity rose 3.1. Load factor increased 1.1 percentage points to 85.5 percent. Russia has the strongest domestic market, with double-digit demand growth for the 11th consecutive month. India's domestic market has rebounded strongly after the disruption from the demise of Jet Airways earlier in the year, as the remaining carriers moved quickly to fill the gap and to meet consumer demand, according to IATA.
