2022 was a year of big changes at pharmaceutical giant GSK,
with a new moniker—a shortening of its former name, GlaxoSmithKline—and the
spinoff of its consumer business, which now operates independently as Haleon.
As such, a primary focus of the travel team last year was making sure employees
were secure with their card, travel and meeting programs from the onset of the
new company set-up.
At the same time, GSK focused on return to travel in 2022,
with $32.4 million in U.S.-booked air volume, compared with just $3.5 million
in 2021. U.S.-booked air volume this year is projected to increase by more than
$3 million over last year, and the company expects, transaction-wise, it will
return to pre-pandemic levels within the next few years. Cost-wise, that will
happen more quickly due to rising prices from travel suppliers.
GSK also removed the approval process required for C-level
employees with international travel in 2022, which was instituted during the
Covid-19 pandemic. It is conducting a full review of its travel policy this
year.
The company supports "performance by choice," in
which employees can work, where possible, in a hybrid set-up.
GSK reported a group turnover of £29.3 billion in 2022, up
from £24.7 billion in 2021. As of 2022, GSK had 69,400 employees with
operations in more than 80 countries worldwide, including 37 manufacturing
sites and four global research and development centers.
