Consolidated U.S. TMC: Amex GBT
Interpublic
Group spent $27 million in U.S.-booked air travel in 2022, according to a BTN
estimate, up substantially from $6.2 million the prior year.
The
marketing and advertising company's 2022 revenue increased 7 percent year over
year to $10.9 billion. Operating income fell 4 percent to $1.4 billion
including the impact of restructuring charges. Office and other direct expenses
increased by 5.2 percent in 2022 due partly to increases in travel and
entertainment expenses and expenses related to company meetings and
conferences.
With over 58,000 employees globally, IPG's domestic
and international travel policies aim to reduce carbon emissions associated
with employee business travel and meetings. The company pledged to achieve 100
percent renewable electricity by 2030 and reached 20 percent of that goal by
the end of 2022.
Its
policies ask employees to consider CO2 emissions among preferred IPG carriers,
including choosing rail over air and "carefully selecting" air travel
class. IPG's booking tool allows employees to sort flights and accommodations
by CO2 emissions. Many IPG offices have enhanced videoconferencing capabilities
and the company promotes alternatives to meetings that require travel. IPG also
is exploring ways to support the development of sustainable aviation fuels.
