Global insurer Liberty Mutual spent $20.6 million in
U.S.-booked air travel in 2022, a rebound from only $3.1 million spent in 2021.
This year, Liberty Mutual is on track to increase that volume to $30 million,
and travel volumes at the company should return to pre-pandemic levels within
the next few years.
Employees have not fully returned to the office at the
company; however, employees living within a 50-mile radius of selected offices
are now required to work in-office at least two days per week.
Liberty’s travel team conducted a request for proposal for
global travel management company services last year, with a contract awarded in
December. BCD Travel already serves as Liberty’s TMC in the United States, and
the company is in the process of rolling it out to countries outside of the
U.S. Liberty operates in 29 countries around the world. Liberty also is
streamlining its air travel policy across the company this year.
The threshold for justifying business travel at Liberty is
about the same as it was prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Liberty Mutual reported a 10.4 percent increase in net
written premiums year over year in 2022, totaling $48.2 billion. The company
has more than 50,000 employees around the world.
