2022 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $17M
Consolidated global TMC: BCD
Although it is owned by Microsoft, business-focused social media platform LinkedIn maintains its own travel program for its workforce of more than 19,500 employees. Its $17 million in U.S.-booked air volume in 2022 earns it a spot on the CT100 list this year.
Working with travel consultancy Advito, LinkedIn is working to build a sustainable business travel program designed to support its workforce and company-wide goals to significantly reduce travel-related carbon emissions. In 2020, LinkedIn set a goal to reduce Scope 3 carbon emissions by 55 percent by 2030. While around 80 percent of the company's Scope 3 emissions come from the supply chain, the second-largest contributor is business travel. Strategies include implementing a carbon price for business travel at the point of sale and creating a robust employee engagement program centered around sustainability.
Besides its internal sustainability goals, LinkedIn also is working to leverage its platform to help customers make their own green transformations.
LinkedIn is growing within Microsoft, with revenues up 34 percent year over year to $13.8 billion in the 2022 fiscal year, which runs July through June, driven by a strong job market and advertising demand. Investments in LinkedIn also were among the drivers of a 14 percent increase year over year in operating expenses at Microsoft in the 2022 fiscal year.
