BTN estimates PwC
spent $116 million in U.S.-booked air volume in 2022. The PwC U.S. firm
launched an entirely new travel program last year. It took several years to
conceptualize and execute, but the company doubled down during the pandemic
when travel slowed to a trickle to make strategic procurement and technology
changes. The U.S. firm left its legacy travel management company partner and
booking technologies last year to go all-in with a start-up powered ecosystem.
Kayak for Business Enterprise serves as the booking tool as well as the direct
connects that will allow all PwC U.S. travelers to book direct content from participating travel suppliers
early next year. Blockchain-based BlockSkye serves as the data nexus for
all travel bookings and tracks payment details on the blockchain, whether those
bookings are made through the online booking tool or through more traditional
agents. The agency tech stack is provided by Gant Travel. PwC is headquartered
in London; the activities described above currently are specific to the U.S.
firm, based in Chicago.
