As the U.S.-booked air volume for German conglomerate Siemens
begins to recover, the company's travel management program has evolved with an
eye toward sustainability.
Siemens in 2022 revised its global travel policy to include
sustainability as an official consideration for trip planning. Additionally,
the company has expanded its electric vehicle rental program, and is promoting EV
adoption through test-drive programs, traveler education, and communications
campaigns. The company also is exploring new technology to enable travelers to
identify more sustainable accommodation options at the point of booking.
Siemens has made changes to its program outside of environmental
efforts. The company in 2022 engaged in a global car rental request for
proposals and tested virtual payment solutions. In 2023, the company is looking
at ways to further integrate its meetings and events management programs with
its transient travel management operations.
The company has consolidated U.S. travel management services
with BCD Travel, which also offers most global services, though CWT holds some
of the company's operations in Asia.
The company at the end of September 2022 had about 311,000
employees worldwide, up about 8,000 from one year prior. Siemens allows for
several days of remote work per week, as determined by local management. Total
2022 revenue increased more than 15 percent year over year to nearly €72
billion.
