The world’s
largest home improvement retailer makes its first appearance in the CT100
following stellar countercyclical growth during the pandemic. Sales grew $40 billion
in the two years to January 2022, and then another 4 percent to $157 billion in
the year to January 2023. Net earnings for fiscal year 2022 were $17.1 billion.
At the end of
that year, The Home Depot had a workforce of 471,000 associates, of whom 47,000
were salaried and the rest were paid hourly. All but 300 of the workforce was
employed in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The remainder were deployed in
sourcing operations in China, Vietnam, India, Italy, Poland and Turkey.
Business has
slowed in 2023, with sales for February to April falling 4.2 percent,
attributed to the end of the Covid DIY boom, plus rising interest and inflation
rates.
