The World Bank pumped $96.5 million
toward U.S.-originating airline tickets in 2022, but only 1 percent of those
tickets were for domestic travels for a group that is one of the largest
sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries and whose mission is
to reduce poverty, increase shared prosperity and promote sustainable
development around the world.
In service to that mission, The World
Bank travel team implemented Concur online booking in the U.S. in 2022. The
team’s top goal for 2023 is stabilizing travel service, especially as
infrastructure returns to developing markets. It is also expanding its Concur
implementation to Singapore and India. The organization in 2023 removed the
additional layer of travel approvals that were required during the Covid-19
pandemic, but no policy changes are underway.
