In 2022, U.S.-booked air spending at the United Nations' New York headquarters operations totaled $35 million. Other UN travel is not included in that estimate. Similarly, while American Express Global Business Travel is the consolidated travel services provider for UN headquarters, the organization uses other TMCs elsewhere.  

The organization includes more than 35,000 staff members across 465 locations. 

The United Nations Secretariat, the executive arm of the organization, represents the UN's management departments, including human resources, finance, information and communication technology, health care, capacity development, conference services, supply chains, facilities and security and safety. 

The UN also remains focused on its environmental performance, which the organization said it continued to improve as it "mitigated wastewater risk, lowered energy consumption and explored opportunities to transition to renewable energy."
