Private aviation platform Wheels Up has acquired aircraft charter company Mountain Aviation, the companies announced.
The acquisition adds 59 aircraft, largely Cessna Citation X jets, to Wheels Up's fleet as well as Mountain Aviation's maintenance capabilities, which will speed up the growth of Wheels Up's in-house maintenance operations. Mountain Aviation has bases in Denver, Southern California and Teterboro, N.J.
In addition, the acquisition adds to Wheels Up's customer base, including Mountain Aviation's defense contract business. Mountain Aviation customers will be moved to Wheels Up's cloud-based Avianis technology platform.
Mountain Aviation CEO Gregg Fahrenbruch will become Wheels Up's SVP of operations strategy, and the company's 300 employees will continue operating out of their current locations. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
