Accommodations are plentiful in Kabul, but more difficult to find in the rest of Afghanistan. Kabul boasts dozens of Western-run guesthouses, all reasonably priced, plus several hotels that opened after the fall of the Taliban. Farther afield is more of a challenge—major cities do have hotels and locally run guesthouses. In a pinch, you can ask at the local NGO (nongovernmental organization) office for a bed for the night. Most towns and villages in Afghanistan have at least one foreign NGO.
