Alaska Airlines has developed a preclearance program for travelers to Hawaii, speeding up their processing upon arrival.
The carrier's Hawaii Pre-Clear program sends travelers an email that asks them to create a Safe Travels profile with the state of Hawaii, provide all flight details and lodging information, complete a mandatory travel health questionnaire and upload negative Covid-19 test results from an approved provider as a PDF. By completing all of those steps, travelers will get Pre-Clear wristband at their departure gate, which precludes them from any additional screening upon arrival in Hawaii and confirms they qualify to avoid the state's 14-day quarantine requirement.
Alaska already has been testing the program on flights from the West Coast to Maui. Next week, it will expand it to include flights to Kona as well as all flights to the island of Oahu.
Hawaii Gov. David Ige in a statement said the program "adds another layer of safety by helping to ensure that the majority, if not all, of Alaska's guests arrive in Hawaii with proof of their negative Covid-19 test results."
